Lessons From The Life And Career Of Michael Jackson
Topics: fulfillment, goal achievement, goal setting, inner happiness, inner peace, joy, michael jackson, satisfaction, serenity
I've always loved the music of Michael Jackson. His career, and the way
his music touched the lives of millions around the world, has been very
inspiring to me too.I've been reading several biographies of his life and career since his death as he is a character who has always fascinated me. Yesterday, I discovered something that's very supportive for our purposes here.
As his solo career was beginning to soar, Michael set 2 principal goals for his carer. He wanted to be "the biggest star in show business, and the wealthiest." Those were two HUGE goals, tough to attain for anyone.
Notice that nowhere on his principal goal list was experiencing True Joy, happiness, satisfaction, fulfillment, peace/serenity, etc. It was all about what I call "outside event focus" versus what I call "inner feeling focus."
For a time, he achieved the first goal, being "the biggest star in show business." While he never reached the goal of being THE wealthiest star in show business, at his peak, he certainly became one of the wealthiest.
While I'm sure he had moments (especially while performing, recording or writing songs) when he felt happiness, satisfaction, fulfillment, peace/serenity, etc., for the vast majority of his life, even as a kid and especially in his final 10 years, he never got close to experiencing being happy, joyful, satisfied, fulfilled, peaceful, etc.
What can we learn from this as it relates to this blog? If True Joy, happiness, satisfaction, fulfillment, peace/serenity, etc. aren't Truly part of your focus (beyond lip service), aren't part of your goal setting "package" for your personal and business lives, aren't included in your targeting system, aren't even on your radar screen, it's not likely you'll experience them.
If you focus exclusively on outer events, at best you'll experience those events (though most people fail to achieve most of their stated goals for outer events). But even in the best case, it's unlikely that experiencing those events will bring you what you really want which is True Joy.
The only way to Truly win in business (and life), to Truly succeed in business (and life) as I see it, is to:
- Begin by combining an outer event focus and an inner feeling focus when you set goals
- Ultimately let go of the focus on outer event focus -- completely -- and focus exclusively on inner feelings.
- When you expand your Consciousness to the point where you naturally
focus exclusively on inner feelings, the outer events take care of
themselves as a natural by-product of that expansion in Consciousness.
This seems "counter intuitive" from certain perspectives, but it's The
Truth nevertheless.
I'll be talking much more about what we can learn from the life and career of Michael Jackson, other celebrities and traditionally successful people, outer event focus, inner feeling focus and more in my new Illusions and Truth Show which is about to launch. Stay tuned for an announcement about that

I appreciate creating you to remind me of this - "This seems "counter intuitive" from certain perspectives, but it's The Truth nevertheless."
Thank you for the clarification about goal-setting. When I started BL, I tried to start with #3--and it was much too big of a leap for me. I focused solely on inner feelings, which being deeply entrenched in phase one dynamics created some pretty tough circumstances. I actually created a bigger hole and what expanded was feeling more powerless and hopeless than I ever had. I started expanding after I went back to creating goals of where I wanted to be in business.
Vickie:
There was no "cause and effect", "failure" or "mistake" with your shifting your focus to feelings -- nor did you "correct" the mistake when you shifted back.
Going into "pretty tough circumstances" and transforming them by using the Phase 2 tools IS the way the Phase 2 game works. It's not about results when you're expanding in Phase 2, it's about knocking out the cloud cover.
You were always expanding in all the examples above.
Also, the shift from outer focus to inner focus isn't something you can rush, force, shortcut, fake, think, will, or self-discipline yourself into. It is something you naturally open into after you knock out enough cloud cover and expand to a certain point.
This is so helpful. I can focus on inner goals such as this one not only feels right and joyful, but it resonates with what I have done in the past that felt good. It is in "my box", but "out of the box society and parents were seemingly putting me in. This just happened to me today as I was contemplating my life.
Awesome!
